WELCOME

The annual summer Petersfield Shakespeare Festival is dedicated to performing entertaining and accessible Shakespeare in a unique and enchanting open-air setting. We look forward to welcoming you for plays and picnics in July!

This year's festival will take place from the 16th – 25th July 2020.

What's on

We are pleased to announce the details of our brand new writing competition for this year's Petersfield Shakespeare Festival, which takes place from 16th – 25th July 2020.

A Creative Writing Competition for all based on Romeo and Juliet

Ever wondered why Montague fell out with Capulet?

Ever wondered how Friar Lawrence knew so much about drugs?

Ever wondered if the Nurse had children of her own?

Ever wondered…

Well if so, this is your opportunity to tell their story. As part of a new look for 2020, the Petersfield Shakespeare Festival is running an exciting creative writing competition to find amazing monologues and dynamic duologues which will be performed as curtain raisers for our centre-piece production of Romeo and Juliet.

We are looking for pieces anywhere between 5 - 30 minutes in length, written from the point of view of any character from Romeo and Juliet. We want to discover their inner-most thoughts and feelings, how they came to be involved in the action and how the tragic events of the play may affect them.

Let your imagination - and your chosen characters - run wild. Take him, her or them wherever they need to go... and provide our audiences with an entertaining new perspective from which to experience this great play.

The winning entries will be workshopped and performed by members of our professional cast during the highly respected Petersfield Shakespeare Festival, which runs from 15th – 26th July 2020 in the beautiful grounds of Bedales School.

The competition is open to anyone over 14, and we will be delighted to receive all contributions, whatever your level of experience. Please don’t be afraid to have a go!

“Go, write... it is no matter how witty, so it be eloquent and full of invention” Twelfth Night, 3, ii

Please send all entries and any queries to Clare Glancy and Lucy Hollis at psfest@outlook.com or Rookham House, East Meon, Hants, GU32 1HT.

Closing date for submissions: Friday 3rd April 2020.

I didn’t dare laugh in case I missed hearing anything!

We come each year to both plays, and it just keeps getting better.

Imaginative, energetic, brilliantly acted and staged. Hilarious.

Best bit of theatre I have seen in years, (and I work in theatre) very inventive, slick, funny with great pace, you would be mad to miss it.

Full of energy and fun, with a hugely talented cast.

A real treat in an amazing atmosphere. Book! Go!

Funny and bawdy just as Shakespeare wrote it!

We were four amongst 200 and every one of every age enjoyed.

It’s absolutely awesome! This was our fourth Shakespeare festival experience and definitely the best yet! Fan-blooming-tastic!

Great performance and a lovely way to spend a summer's evening.

Such an amazing show - we are hooked!

Brilliant! Thoroughly recommend seeing anything they do.
